Smiths Group announces electronics firm acquisition

International technology firm Smiths Group has announced the acquisition of Shanghai-based microwave electronics firm Allrizon Tongguang.

Purchased from private owners for an undisclosed sum, Smith Group report that the takeover will enhance and extend their microwave business portfolio.

Allrizon is a specialist in the production of radio frequency filters for use with wireless telecommunications products.

Paul Cox, group managing director of Smiths Specialty Engineering, said: "This acquisition effectively adds to Smiths Interconnect's footprint in China where some 70 per cent of the world's wireless telecommunications infrastructure equipment is made."

He added that the acquisition would help to develop a centre of excellence in the rapidly expanding Chinese market; allowing it to attract both indigenous business and improved relationships with international companies trading in the country.

Late last month, the company also announced the completion of the acquisition of petrochemical filters firm Indufil following competition clearance from the German Competition Authority.
